Strong cooperation on the anniversary year in 2018

The Port of Esbjerg and Denmark's youngest metropolitan city, Esbjerg celebrate their 150th anniversary in 2018, and Esbjerg Municipality and Esbjerg Port are working closely together on the planning of the anniversary. The town and the port will form the framework for a magnificent celebration, which includes a wide range of cultural and sporting events - all with ties to the anniversary of the port and city.

Port and City 150 years

The anniversary year is called "Port and City 150 years" to reflect that the city and the harbor are two sides of the same coin.

During 2018, Esbjerg Municipality and Esbjerg Port will continuously mark the anniversary and the planning of this is in full swing.

"Esbjerg's development is unique, and therefore the jubilee of the port and the city must obviously be marked. The construction of the Port of Esbjerg has historical and national significance, and I also think it is appropriate to use the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the change of readiness that is an important part of Esbjerg's DNA. In addition to celebrating the historical, we will also turn our eyes on the future, which in many ways also looks bright. The city is in a rapid development and the port is well equipped for the opportunities that appear on the horizon, including the new North Sea agreement, says mayor of Esbjerg Municipality, Jesper Frost Rasmussen.

The ability to adapt is part of the core story of Esbjerg Port; the port has played a vital national role both as an export port, the country's largest fishing port and now as a key player in the energy sector.

The chairman of Esbjerg Port, Flemming N. Enevoldsen, is pleased that the anniversary celebrates both the city and the harbor and sees great potential in the cooperation.

"Without the port, there would be no city, and without the city, the port would not work. That is a fact, and it has been so for almost 150 years. Therefore it is absolutely natural that the anniversary is also organized jointly. Together with the municipality we can create the anniversary that matches  Denmark's youngest metropolis with the most adaptable harbor", says Flemming N. Enevoldsen.
